Mindfulness Yoga Reduces Depression in Pregnancy

Women who experience anxiety and depression during pregnancy are at an increased risk for experiencing postpartum mood disorders.  According to a 2012 study from the University of Michigan, mindfulness yoga during pregnancy reduced depression in pregnant women.  This is such good news!!  Women want alternatives to taking medications during pregnancy and mindfulness yoga may be a solution to alleviating their depression and anxiety.  According to lead author, Maria Muzik, MD, MS,

“Our work provides promising first evidence that mindfulness yoga may be an effective alternative to pharmaceutical treatment for pregnant women showing signs of depression. . . This promotes both mother and baby wellbeing.”
